Kroos: Augsburg defeat not a disaster for Bayern

The midfielder insists that Pep Guardiola’s men were just unlucky not to have won at the SGL Arena and is unconcerned by their recent form ahead of the visit of Manchester United

Toni Kroos has played down the significance of Bayern Munich’s first Bundesliga defeat of the season, claiming that Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Augsburg is “not a disaster”.

The Bavarians have already wrapped up the title but Saturday’s reversal at the SGL Arena means that Pep Guardiola’s men have now gone three games without a victory in all competitions.

Bayern’s form appears a cause for concern ahead of the visit of Manchester United on Wednesday night for the decisive second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie, but Kroos feels it would be foolish to read too much into the defeat against Augsburg.

“We dominated the game but we didn’t make the most of it,” the midfielder told his club’s official website.

“We weren’t calm enough to create clear-cut opportunities. That was the problem today.

“But it’s not a disaster. We want to win every game and you could see that today in the way we pressed forward in search of a goal in the second half.

“It just didn’t work out.”

Bayern claimed a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, with Bastian Schweinsteiger cancelling out Nemanja Vidic’s opener.
