The Germany international is looking forward to Saturday’s clash with Borussia Dortmund and insists the Bundesliga champions remain the team to beat
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer expects this weekend’s DFB Pokal final against Borussia Dortmund to be a close encounter.
Holders Bayern thrashed Kaiserslautern 5-1 in the last four to set up a repeat of the 2012 final against Dortmund, who beat Wolfsburg 2-0 in their semi-final.
Neuer feels there is little difference in quality between the two sides – despite Dortmund finishing 19 points behind Bayern in the Bundesliga this season – and is anticipating a tough game in Berlin.
“We’re looking forward to the cup final. It’s a final deserving of its name,” Neuer was quoted as saying on the official Bayern website.
“It should be an exciting game between the top two teams in Germany. We are evenly matched and it will go down to the wire.”
The Germany international went on to stress that Bayern remain the team to beat in Germany due to their unmatched will to win.
“We’re extremely successful and the best team in Germany, a great feeling,” added the 28-year-old.
“As it says in the club anthem: ‘We always play in front of a full house, the atmosphere is always amazing and our will to win is unbeatable.’
“To add to that, we have fans everywhere; even in Indonesia, where I went on holiday.”
Saturday’s DFB Pokal final in Berlin is scheduled to kick off at 20:00CET.
