The Dutchman was not impressed by the Bundesliga champions’ opponents’ tactics, while Pep Guardiola was delighted with his side’s victory
Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben has slammed Koln’s defensive tactics in the Bavarians’ 2-0 Bundesliga win on Saturday
Mario Gotze opened the scoring for Bayern midway through the first half with a tap-in at the far post before an own goal from Daniel Halfar sealed the win for the champions in the 66th minute, much to the delight of Robben.
But the Netherlands international has criticised the hosts for their ultra-defensive style throughout the game.
“Koln sat very deep and only wanted to defend and play on the counter-attack,” he told Bayern’s official website.
“They never got out of their own half and that makes things very complicated.
“But we remained quiet, letting the ball run and we created enough chances. We deserved to win in the end. Compliment to the team.”
Bayern’s win was coach Pep Guardiola’s 50th victory since taking the helm at the Allianz Arena and his side’s first on the road this season during an unbeaten start to their Bundesliga title defence and the former Barcelona boss could not hide his delight
“We are very pleased that we have celebrated the first away win of the season.
“It was not easy, because Koln were well organised. But we controlled the ball well and never lost concentration.”
The win sees Bayern maintain their place at the top of the table and comes ahead of a Champions League trip to Moscow to face CSKA on Tuesday and Guardiola has revealed his side will not have return to Bavaria before the trip to Russia.
“Now we sleep here in Cologne and Sunday we fly to Moscow.”
