The versatile defender was in fine form during the win over Bremen but the Spaniard joked that he could have contributed even more
Pep Guardiola joked that he expected two-goal hero Philipp Lahm to score a hat-trick in Bayern Munich’s 6-0 Bundesliga win over Werder Bremen.
The 30-year-old opened the scoring in the 20th minute before doubling his personal tally in the 79th minute to score his first-ever double, with Mario Gotze (2), Thomas Muller and Xabi Alonso finding the net as well.
“I must admit that I am a bit disappointed with Philipp,” Guardiola said at a press conference.
“I expected him to get a hat-trick…
“Of course, I am delighted for Philipp and I am proud to be his coach.”
Meanwhile, the former Germany captain himself has admitted that he is unlikely to net a double again in the future.
“I don’t know whether this will be the last time I score twice in one game, but I think that’s very likely…”
Lahm had netted just 11 goals in 412 official appearances for Bayern ahead of the win over Bremen.
