Gladbach boss happy with Bayern-Hunters tag

With Dortmund languishing at the wrong end of the Bundesliga, Lucien Favre is happy chasing Pep Guardiola’s German giants

Borrusia Monchengladbach coach Lucien Favre has welcomed his club’s tag as “Bayern-hunters”, as they remain hot on the Bundesliga champions’ heels after eight games.

Die Fohlen sit just four points behind Pep Guardiola’s men and could narrow that gap when they host the Bavarian giants on Saturday.

And with Bayern’s most recent competitors, Dortmund, hovering just above the relegation zone following their dismal start to the season, Favre says his club and those around them can dream of mounting a real title challenge this term.

“I like ‘Bayern-hunters,'” he told Bild.

“That is indeed the truth if you look at the table, but we have to be realistic anyway. Hoffenheim, Mainz and Wolfsburg are right behind us, so they are Bayern-hunters too.

“It can go very quickly, though, and then you’re eighth or 10th. Ultimately, the only thing that is important is where we stand in May. The fans can dream.”

Favre also paid tribute to Guardiola, saying the Spanish coach has been impressive since arriving in Germany – leading the club to a league and cup double after previous coach Jupp Heynckes had claimed a famous treble domestic and European.

“We should not forget that Heynckes won the treble with Bayern.

“After that it was extremely difficult for a new coach, and it’s amazing what Pep Guardiola has done with the team. One can see his ideas and his philosophy. It is extremely difficult to compete against him and Bayern.”
