The left-back picked up the injury in Bayern Munich’s 2-0 win over Roma in the Champions League and is set to be out for several weeks
David Alaba will be out of action for Bayern Munich for several weeks with a medial collateral ligament tear and will undergo surgery.
The Austria international was taken off towards the end of his side’s 2-0 Champions League win and scans have revealed a medial ligament tear, for which he requires surgery.
Alaba admitted that the news comes as a “bitter” blow for him and the team.
“This is actually quite bitter for me,” he told Bayern’s official website. “After the surgery, I will return as soon as it the doctors allow me to begin rehab. I hope that I will return soon with the help of our medical department and get back on the court.”
Bayern coach Pep Guardiola added that it was a “pity” for the player and his team.
“This is a very bad news,” the Spaniard said. “We lose a top player who can play all positions and always gives 100 per cent. It’s a pity.”
