Guardiola ready to unleash Ribery on Roma

The Bayern boss feels the French winger “made the difference” off the bench against Borussia Dortmund and could start him on Wednesday in the Champions League clash

Pep Guardiola says he is ready to unleash Franck Ribery on Roma after his impressive cameo in the win over Borussia Dortmund.

The Bayern Munich winger came off the bench with 20 minutes to go against Jurgen Klopp’s side on Saturday and sparked his side’s comeback, playing a part in Robert Lewandowski’s equaliser before winning the penalty from which Arjen Robben scored the winner.

Guardiola was impressed with his display in the 2-1 triumph and has indicated he could field the 31-year-old from the start against Roma on Wednesday as he looks to get his team playing to a satisfactory standard.

“He made the difference against Dortmund,” Guardiola told reporters.

“We’re playing better than I thought we would, but we’re not quite at the level where I want us to be.

“Roma have a very good and youthful side and can impose their game on you if you give them too much room.

“It’s a different game [to the 7-1 thrashing in Rome]. We’re focused on the massive chance we have to progress to the next round.”
