The Netherlands international was not impressed with the Gelsenkirchen side’s tactics and feels FCB deserved the full three points
Bayern Munich attacker Arjen Robben has hit out at Schalke for their negative approach in the 1-1 Bundesliga draw at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening.
The Bavarians were reduced to 10 men early on following Jerome Boateng’s red card, yet continued to dominate proceedings and eventually went 1-0 up following Robben’s goal.
Nevertheless, Benedikt Howedes salvaged a draw for the guests with a superb header after a corner, much to the frustration of the Dutchman.
“This result is very annoying. Schalke did not do anything all game. They did not deserve a good result. We put in a pretty good performance against an ultra-defensive team, even if we were a man down,” Robben told Sky.
“We take the lead and then we allow Howedes, who is their strongest player in the air, too much freedom at a corner. You have to give your all in a situation like that and be willing to put your life on the line.
“We have to be very critical of ourselves. We want to keep improving and make progress. Conceding a goal like that could be fatal in the Champions League.”
Bayern will be looking to record their first win of 2015 when they travel to Stuttgart on Saturday.
