Schweinsteiger: Bayern were in control

The Germany international was pleased with his side’s performance against Schalke but thinks they deserved more than a draw

Bastian Schweinsteiger feels Bayern Munich were in control in Tuesday’s 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Schalke at the Allianz Arena and believes they significantly improved on their performance against Wolfsburg.

The reigning Bundesliga champions were beaten 4-1 by Wolfsburg last Friday and Schweinsteiger was pleased with their response against Schalke, even if they had to settle for one point in the end.

Bayern were reduced to 10 men early on following Jerome Boateng’s dismissal, yet Arjen Robben gifted them the lead in the second half, only for Benedikt Howedes to restore parity shortly after.

“We were better than in the game against Wolfsburg, we had more control and we never let them get at us on the break,” the midfielder told the official Bayern website.

“But we’re not happy with a 1-1 draw. We were down to ten men but we still had chances to win it.”

Bayern resume Bundesliga action away against Stuttgart on Saturday and Schweinsteiger is hopeful they can return to winning ways at last.

“We’ll go to Stuttgart now looking for a victory.”
