Rummenigge: I have no problem Watzke

The Bayern supremo has described his Dortmund counterpart as “an incredibly competent colleague” following recent frosty relations between the clubs

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has insisted that he does not have any problems with Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.

The relationship between the Bundesliga champions and their main domestic rivals has turned sour in recent years following the transfers of Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski, as well as Bayern’s public courting of Marco Reus.

Both clubs have previously opted to skip the traditional dinner event ahead of the teams’ meeting in the Bundesliga, but Rummenigge has made a move to bury the hatchet and has hailed Watzke’s impact at Signal Iduna Park.

“If we were to receive an invitation, I will obviously attend,” Rummenigge told Sport1.

“I do not have any problem with Hans-Joachim Watzke. I regard him as an incredibly competent colleague.

“I think that he has played a major role in how far Borussia Dortmund have come again. You cannot just look at this season.”

Bayern travel to Dortmund on Saturday as the Bundesliga returns after the international break.

The Bavarians currently sit atop the table with 64 points from 26 games, while Dortmund are 10th on 33.
