The Netherlands international is widely expected to move on this summer and appears to be on his way to either Anfield Road or the Ligue 1 champions
PSV sporting director Marcel Brands has revealed that Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain lead the race to sign Memphis Depay ahead of Manchester United, while ruling out Bayern Munich as a potential destination for the Netherlands international.
Brands already acknowledged last month that three clubs had made an approach for the 21-year-old, who will be allowed to move on if an offer in the region of €25-30 million comes in.
Liverpool and PSG have since held talks with the Eredivisie top goalscorer’s entourage over a summer transfer, while United have yet to step up their interest.
“PSG and Liverpool are indeed a step ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Memphis. United have only informed us about their interest,” Brands told Fox Sports.
“The list of interested clubs has grown in recent weeks. But Bayern Munich are not among the teams that want to sign him.
“It’s only logical that there is a lot of movement around Memphis. He is still a young player, but is already hugely efficient. He should be proud of that.
“There isn’t usually a lot of movement in the transfer market at this stage of the season. It’s an exception that so many clubs have already shown an interest in Memphis.
“That only illustrates that he’s on the right track.”
Memphis has been in sublime form for PSV this term and played a key role in their successful Eredivisie campaign, scoring 21 goals in 28 games to help them to the league title.
