Reports last week claimed the Switzerland star had agreed to join the club in the summer
Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka has dismissed reports claiming he will join Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
A Kosovan newspaper claimed Gladbach had reached an agreement with the Bundesliga champions, but the 22-year-old says the speculation is purely fiction.
“I have no idea who out of my camp would tell a newspaper these things. They must know more than I do,” he said to ran.de.
“I can only say that I have never had any contact with Bayern Munich and I’m certainly not in agreement with Bayern. This message is utter nonsense.”
Xhaka’s response was followed by a statement from his agent, who added: “I can rule this out 100 per cent.”
The Switzerland international would face stiff competition for a place at Bayern if he moved to the Allianz Arena, with the player admitting he wouldn’t join a club where he wasn’t guaranteed a starting berth.
“I would certainly not ever switch to Bayern or another club if I knew that I would be the fourth or fifth midfielder there.
“Should I actually leave Borussia someday, then it will only be for a club where I would play a similarly important role, as I do here.”
