Philippe Coutinho Tells Barcelona He Does Not Want to Return to Camp Nou

Philippe Coutinho is thought to be eager to avoid returning to Barcelona when his one-year loan with Bayern Munich comes to an end this summer.

After a hugely disappointing 18 months at Camp Nou which saw him attract plenty of criticism from fans, Coutinho was shipped out on loan to Bayern in August 2019 and the Bundesliga side have the option to make the move permanent for €120m.

Amid rumours that Bayern might not be interested in signing him, Coutinho has again found himself linked to plenty of Europe’s biggest teams. A switch certainly seems possible as Xavi Campos told Catalunya Ràdio’s Club de la Mitjanit that Coutinho is eager to leave Barcelona permanently.

The Brazilian has informed both Barcelona and Bayern that he would like to remain in Munich for the foreseeable future, although it’s not as easy as that.

Barcelona have asked Bayern whether they intend to activate their €120m option, but the German side are believed to have said that they are unsure right now, leaving Coutinho lost in a sort of purgatory.

A permanent move to the Allianz Arena is by no means impossible. While countless outlets have reported that Bayern do not want to activate their option to sign Coutinho for €120m, ?Bild note that they would be happier to sign him for a smaller fee.

Coutinho has managed seven goals and eight assists in 27 appearances this season. Those numbers are by no means disappointing, but there are doubts over whether they justify a €120m spend.

As a result, it could come down to Barcelona’s demands. If they lower their asking price enough, Bayern may be interested, but there are also a number of other sides who have been tipped to join the race for his signature.

?Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have been heavily linked with Coutinho, while long-term suitors ?Manchester United and ?Chelsea are also thought to be keeping an eye on the situation.
