Manuel Neuer Pens New Bayern Munich Deal Running Until 2023

Bayern Munich have confirmed that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has put pen to paper on a new deal with the club running until 2023.

Since joining the club in 2011, the stopper has been voted as the World’s Best Goalkeeper on four different occasions, as well as winning seven Bundesliga titles and lifting the Champions League in 2013.

His most recent contract extension was penned in 2016, but the club have tied him down to an extension, confirming the news on their official website. It will see Neuer remain at the Allianz Arena until 2023, by which time he will have amassed 12 years with the Bundesliga champions.

“FC Bayern are very happy Manuel has extended his contract until 30 June 2023,” explained CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “Manuel is the best goalkeeper in the world and our captain.”

Oliver Kahn, FC Bayern executive board member, also weighed in on the news, claiming it was always the intention for the club to extend the German’s stay in Bavaria.

“I can easily put myself in the situation Manuel is in,” he said. “We understand the direction Manuel wants to take in this phase of his career and what’s important to him. He’s sent a strong signal with this extension.”

Neuer himself expressed his delight at the new deal, insisting that the delay in the news was a result of the impact of coronavirus across the globe.

“During the weeks of the shutdown for the coronavirus pandemic, I didn’t want to make a decision because nobody knew if, when and how Bundesliga football would continue,” Neuer said.

“It was important for me to continue working with our goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic. Now this has been resolved, I look to the future with great optimism. I feel very comfortable and at home in Bavaria. FC Bayern are one of Europe’s top football clubs.”
