Leroy Sane has expressed his joy at being a Bayern Munich player, after taking part in his first training session with his new club on Monday.

After months of speculation, the winger joined the German champions from Manchester City in a €60m deal this July, signing a five-year deal with the club.

Sane took to the training pitches with his new side for the first time on Monday, completing light running and ball work before he takes part in full training next week.

Speaking in a video posted on Bayern Munich’s official Twitter account, Sane said: “It was very good. It was a small group for training with Niklas Sule, but it was great to be out on the pitch again, completing my first session here on the training ground.

“I’m just overjoyed to be here.”

The German’s move to Bayern had been a long time coming. Sane was poised to join the Bundesliga champions last summer, before he suffered a serious knee injury against Liverpool in the Community Shield final – his first competitive outing of the season.

As a result, the former Schalke man missed the majority of the campaign, playing just 11 minutes in the Premier League for City.

Sane had been an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s side that won two Premier League titles on the trot, hoovering up 198 points over the course of two seasons.

The German international scored 20 goals across City’s two title winning campaigns, and scooped the 2017/18 PFA Young Player of the Year Award.

Sane did not take part in full training for Bayern, having only just recovered from his near-season ending ACL injury, completing circuits and light ball work instead.

He will join up with his new teammates in full training next week as Bayern continue their preparations for the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Chelsea in August – although the 24-year-old is not available to feature in the competition.
