Ancelotti: Bayern will not sign Coman replacement

Although the injury to the France international is a setback to the German champions, the Italian boss says he is in no hurry to replace him

Bayern Munich head coach Carlo Ancelotti has no plans to enter the transfer market to sign a replacement for Kingsley Coman despite the France international’s ankle injury.

The winger has been ruled out for an “indefinite period of time” after being hurt during a training session on Wednesday.

However, Ancelotti believes the Bundesliga champions have enough strength in depth to cover for Coman’s absence.

“I have always said that I do not need any more signings,” Ancelotti said at a news conference.

“I am happy with the team I have.

“The players who are injured will be back in two to three weeks. We can wait for that.

“I hope Coman will be back after the international break. A few of the others are close to making their comeback.”

Ancelotti also confirmed that he has spoken with Franck Ribery after the 33-year-old winger seemingly aimed an elbow into the face of Felix Passlack in Bayern’s 2-0 DFL-Supercup win over Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.

“I have had a word with Franck,” he added. “He understood perfectly well what I meant.”

Lahm warns Ribery over behaviour

The veteran winger made the headlines for the wrong reason after an apparent elbow in the Bavarians’ weekend win, and he was scolded by his captain

Bayerrn Munich skipper Philipp Lahm has warned Franck Ribery over his behaviour after the Frenchman appeared to elbow Borussia Dortmund defender Felix Passlack in this weekend’s DFL-Supercup encounter.

Ribery escaped with a yellow card following the first-half incident, but Lahm has told the 33-year-old his actions were not acceptable.

“I have told him that he should keep his hands off his opponents,” Lahm said at a news conference.

“I think he understands what I mean, but you cannot just change his character altogether, that is rather difficult.

“I just hope that things like this do not happen again in the future, but I obviously cannot guarantee anything.”

It is not the first time Ribery has been publicly reprimanded this season, with Carlo Ancelotti also warning him after a similar incident in the friendly against Inter, while chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told him off after he criticised former Bayern coach Pep Guardiola.

'Pogba would be fantastic for Bayern Munich' – Coman dreams of playing with France team-mate at club level

The France international is preparing to make his second debut for the Red Devils, but his countryman would love him to be at Die Roten instead

Kingsley Coman says France team-mate Paul Pogba would be a fantastic addition to the squad at Bayern Munich.

Pogba has only just re-joined Manchester United from Juventus in a world-record transfer, having played alongside the winger as their nations finished as runners-up at Euro 2016.

But that has not stopped Coman – playing in Germany on loan from Juve – dreaming of playing alongside him at Bayern as he hailed the midfielder’s star power.

“If I could choose a player, I would like to have Pogba for Bayern,” Coman told Bild. “This would be fantastic. He has unbelievable abilities and is a fantastic midfielder.

“Apart from this he is not only important on the pitch. He has a huge marketing value. He stays in people’s minds.”

Pogba is expected to make his second debut for United in Friday’s home Premier League match against Southampton.

Rummenigge slams Dortmund fans over Hummels treatment

The Roten chief was left incensed by the reception the defender received from BVB fans in the DFL-Supercup on Sunday evening

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge slammed Borussia Dortmund fans for their “ingratitude” towards Mats Hummels during the DFL-Supercup on Sunday.

Hummels made his competitive debut for Bayern in their 2-0 victory over his old club, with goals from Arturo Vidal and Thomas Muller sealing the win for the Bundesliga champions.

Germany international Hummels was booed with every touch of the ball by large sections of the crowd at Signal Iduna Park, many of whom have not forgiven him for leaving Dortmund for their title rivals in July.

But Rummenigge has blasted those fans for failing to recognise the efforts of the 27-year-old during his Dortmund career, in which he won two Bundesliga titles, two Supercups and the DFB-Pokal.

“Ingratitude is the world’s wage,” he said. “It’s a disaster that someone who gave everything for the club for years is booed like that – it’s so disappointing.”

Hummels admitted that it was a peculiar sensation to step onto the pitch as part of Dortmund’s opposition, but said there are plenty of fans who remember him more fondly.

“I was caught out when I felt so emotional before my entrance into the stadium. It was a strange situation,” he said, as quoted by Bild.

“You can treat the subject as you wish. There are also a lot of very positive things still. I still see people write on Twitter and Facebook, who value our time together. To them, I try to respond to say that I see it that way.”

Hummels hopes there is more to come from him at Bayern after conceding that his extended break following Euro 2016 has left him playing catch-up in terms of fitness.

“It is the first title but my performance could be better,” he said. “But if, after only eight days of training, you were at the same level as those with five weeks of training, then pre-season would be nonsense.

“For me, it was an important game to make a step forward concerning my fitness. Regarding my performance, that was hopefully not the top limit.”

Ancelotti: Supercup win gives Bayern confidence

The Italian was satisfied after seeing his side pick up their first silverware of the season while Thomas Tuchel felt his side were unfortunate to lose to their rivals

Carlo Ancelotti believes Bayern Munich’s 2-0 win over rivals Borussia Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup will give his team plenty of confidence for the new Bundesliga season, but says he is still working on implementing his ideas at the Allianz Arena.

The Italian’s first competitive match as head coach of Bayern ended in victory as Arturo Vidal and Thomas Muller struck at Signal Iduna Park on Sunday.

Ancelotti has already bettered his predecessor Pep Guardiola, who failed to win the Supercup in any of his three seasons at Bayern, and the former Real Madrid boss feels his team have a fine platform on which to build for the upcoming campaign.

“We are satisfied,” Ancelotti said after the match. “Of course it was difficult.

“Dortmund played very well in the first half. In the second it went better for us, which gives us confidence for the Bundesliga.

“The team is very, very strong. I’m trying to implement my ideas. We tried to bring in some new things and now have 10 days to prepare.”

Ancelotti’s counterpart Thomas Tuchel reflected on what he felt was an “unfortunate” defeat as a string of Manuel Neuer saves denied Dortmund.

“Congratulations to Bayern and Carlo Ancelotti,” Tuchel said. “That was an unfortunate defeat.

“We have invested a lot and had a good energy on the court. Unfortunately we have eventually made many small mistakes. I am very happy about what the team has shown.”

The match was a particularly important occasion for Mats Hummels, who started for Bayern against the club he left at the end of last season, and he conceded his former employees were unfortunate not to have been ahead in the first half.

“In the first half we had the luck on our side and a superior Neuer,” Hummels said.

“No one would complain if Dortmund had taken the lead.”
