Javi Martinez pleased with full Bayern debut

Bayern Munich’s Javi Martinez was happy with his full debut for the German side as they beat Valencia 2-1 in the Champions League.

The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder has been limited to only substitute appearances in the Bundesliga since his summer transfer from the Europa League finalists, but he was pleased to finally make the starting eleven in the European encounter.

I had a good feeling as to play in the Champions League is a dream,” he told Canal Plus.

“We played a good game as the plan was to keep the ball and control the game. We defended well and that allowed us to finish the game off.

The Spain international was also quick to thank the fans of his new club for the warm welcome he has received since his arrival in Germany, though he admitted he was struggling somewhat to learn German.

People are treating me well. They are very nice people but with the language I understand nothing. I am starting next week with classes.”

Meanwhile, Martinez’s midfield rival Toni Kroos has revealed the arrival of the 24-year old has created more competition at the Allianz Arena.

Kroos, who scored in Wednesday night’s victory, told Sport Bild that he is not worried by the new arrival at last year’s Champions League runners-up.

Whether MartĂnez is a direct competitor for me is for you to say,” he said.

Of course I want to play. But it’s always the same at Bayern: the competition is huge.

“I’m
sure that if I bring my power, I will play. Regardless of our new signings, this is self-confidence I have.”
