Lahm wants Bayern-Dortmund Champions League final

The Bavarian full-back has set his sights on an all-German affair and says the Bundesliga’s finest are just as good as Barcelona and Real Madrid

Philipp Lahm has revealed his hope that Bayern Munich will face Borussia Dortmund should they reach the Champions League final this campaign.

The Bavarians were runners up last season and head into their last-16 second leg at home with a 3-1 advantage over Arsenal.

Lahm, who grabbed his ninth assist of the Bundesliga season in die Roten’s 3-2 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday afternoon, has his fingers crossed that the German sides thrive in European’s top competition this season.

“If I could choose it, I would say I hope we face [BVB] in the final,” the full-back told Welt am Sonntag.

“I think the way I used to think as just a football fan, I would like to make it so that the German teams face each other late on. This also applies to Schalke.”

Jurgen Klopp’s men are the only Bundesliga team to have secured their spot in the last eight of the tournament, but the Bavarians are strong favourites to brush aside the Gunners on Wednesday night, while the Gelsenkirchen club will play their home tie against Galatasaray having drawn the away leg 1-1.

Jupp Heynckes’ men are 20 points clear in their domestic league, and Lahm believes that his team and BVB are equal to Barcelona and Real Madrid’s quality.

“The Champions League is the hardest competition to win,” the Germany veteran added.

“Teams like us, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are approximately at the same level.”
