Athletic Bilbao consider legal action against Bayern Munich over Javi Martinez

Athletic Bilbao president Josu Urrutia has revealed that the Basque side could take legal action against Bayern Munich in the wake of the transfer of Javi Martinez to the Bundesliga giants.

The midfielder underwent a medical with the Germans without permission from his club, before completing his move the following day, and the Basque side are not amused with die Roten‘s behaviour.

“We are looking into the possibilities of taking legal action against Bayern Munich,” Urrutia stated at a press conference.

“Javi Martinez had a valid contract with us, which was specifically protected by the rules and regulations of world football’s governing body, Fifa.”

Bayern Munich eventually met the player’s €40 million buy-out clause to lure the Spain international away from Bilbao and the 24-year-old made his official Bayern debut at the weekend in the 6-1 Bundesliga win over Stuttgart.

Schweinsteiger glad to be back on scoring trail for Bayern

Bastian Schweinsteiger has talked of his happiness at being back amongst the goals following Bayern Munich’s 6-1 victory over Stuttgart on Sunday.

The midfielder is not known for his scoring prowess, having last netted in the Bundesliga eight months ago against Borussia Monchengladbach, but capped off his side’s emphatic win at the weekend.

“I had a good opportunity to score in Furth but I generally don’t get that many,” he explained to FCB News.

“That’s why I must try to score when I get those rare chances. [On Sunday] I did just that with my first attempt, but I hope that we will score many goals as a team.”

The 28-year-old has suffered a succession of injuries over the past year, but he believes he is now on the road to recovery and helping his team-mates once more, despite Germany coach Joachim Low not yet being convinced of his fitness.

“Everything is okay, I’m a little bit tired from yesterday’s minutes on the field,” Schweinsteiger added.

“There are matches when I’m being chased by opponents all the time, so that the other players get more touches and find bigger spaces but generally I try to organise our game.

“I distribute the ball and try to bring my team-mates into good positions.”

Schweinsteiger also commented on new signing Javi Martinez, and claims it is for the best that the former Athletic Bilbao man will spend the international break in Munich, rather than with Spain.

“It’s good for him [to stay in Munich]. He has played at the Olympics after a long season with Bilbao and Spain,” he noted.

“It’s good for him to train for 10 days and acclimatise to his new environment. You get to know the players better. He already knows some words in German, he’s very friendly.”

Bundesliga Team of the Week: Muller & Kroos fly the Bayern flag

After just two weekends, the 2012-13 Bundesliga looks to be as exciting and fascinating as last season’s edition. Bayern Munich continued their flying start to the new campaign by hitting Stuttgart for six as Borussia Dortmund could only muster a disappointing 1-1 draw at Nurnberg. Werder Bremen got their campaign off and running with a 2-0 win over local rivals Hamburg, while Eintracht Frankfurt thrashed Hoffenheim as their top-flight homecoming continued. And Goal.com is here to point out all of the best performers.

Hamburg may have got off to a poor start, but Rene Adler has been a shrewd acquisition, and a penalty save against Aaron Hunt helped the former Germany goalkeeper to a second straight Team of the Week appearance. In defence, Sebastian Jung played a key role as Frankfurt won 4-0 away at Hoffenheim, while Philipp Wollscheid and Kyriakos Papadopoulos‘ strikes for Leverkusen and Schalke respectively see them included for their first appearances.

Hunt may have missed one spot kick in Bremen’s derby win, but still found the scoresheet, while Pirmin Schwegler‘s spectacular effort from distance in Frankfurt’s demolition of Hoffenheim has earned him a place in our selection. Jermaine Jones scored a superb individual effort as Schalke got their first win of the season, and Toni Kroos pulled all the strings, and almost broke the net with a screamer, as Bayern asserted their dominance over southern rivals Stuttgart.

Thomas Muller is another Roten star to make the cut, while Szabolcs Huszti set up all four goals in Hannover’s 4-0 triumph in the Lower Saxony derby against Wolfsburg. Another member of Mirko Slomka’s side to shine was Artur Sobiech, who got his third and fourth goals of the season on Sunday.

Heynckes: Bayern were outstanding against Stuttgart

Jupp Heynckes has voiced his delight with Bayern Munich’s performance in Sunday’s 6-1 win over Stuttgart at the Allianz Arena, despite their difficult start to the match.

The Bavarians fell 1-0 behind early on, but then hit their stride and cruised to a comfortable home win over the Schwaben.

“We were too passive in the first 20 minutes and lacked the aggression you need,” Heynckes stated at a press conference.

“But my team woke up after going 1–0 down, and reacted in the way we want them to. After that, we played outstanding football.

“You could see the players enjoying it. Above all else, you could see a united team with total harmony.

“I’m delighted about winning 6-1, but even more about the impression I’m getting from the team in our daily work.”

Bayern have collected six points from their opening two games.

'He is exactly the type of player we need' – Heynckes happy with Javi Martinez debut

Bayern Munich thrashed Stuttgart 6-1 on Sunday to move to the top of the Bundesliga and afterwards Die Roten’s boss Jupp Heynckes was quick to praise the cameo performance of Javi Martinez.

Aside from an astonishing goalscoring display from Bayern, in which Toni Kroos, Mario Mandzukic, Thomas Muller, Luiz Gustavo and Bastian Schewinsteiger scored, FCB fans also got to see €40 million man Martinez make his much-anticipated debut.

The former Los Leones midfielder, who replaced Schweinsteiger for the final 14 minutes of the game, introduced himself to the fans with a fine 40-yard pass to Muller.

“He has already hinted that he can pass. I think this is exactly the player we need.” said Bayern manager Jupp Heynckes to Sport Bild.

Martinez was making his debut on his 24th birthday, and will be looking to feature more heavily in his new team’s next fixture away to Mainz.
